Blood Brothers Whip Up a New Treat

How I've gone a week without mentioning anything about The Blood Brothers is beyond me - so lets change that right now. This is the kind of news that basically helps no one, but is always exciting to hear. Johnny and the crew have finally arrived back home for the winter, and will begin the process of writing a new album. See what I mean about this helping no one? It breeding nothing but anxious waiting.

One very small way to get your BBs fix for the holidays is by downloading their first ever (to my knowledge) official remix. The patient - fellow V2 bandmates Gang of Four. The song - Anthrax.

Download the track riiiiiiiight................
here (link should work now - yay)

Oh man just thought of more somewhat related news. Does he hold it for a later post? Nah. If you have missed the Crystal City Clothing bandwagon then get your ass in gear and head over there.

Crystal City is a clothing company started by Johnny Whitney (
BBs) and Amy Carlsen (Sasha Clothing Co.) that makes some amazing prints. If Johnny and Amy made babies there is no doubt that they would be talented, well dressed rockers. Some perks to the company (other than the obvious ones) are that they price everything fairly, deliver quickly and handwrite a thank you note in your package. You can't beat that people.

L.A. Bands Playing SXSW

So like you I wet myself when I saw the lineup for SXSW 2006. Out of the 7500 bands that applied to play SXSW only a handful of LA bands made the cut, so check them out and get to know them.

The Adored
The BellRays
The Brokedown
Dengue Fever
Flogging Molly
The Like
The Plimsouls

(The Content doesn't necessarily endorse these bands - so don't come complaining to us if they're terrible)

I hear that getting into shows at SXSW is a little tricky and that ticket holders are third priority over those with badges or wristbands. While badges are pretty pricey and are hard to come by, out of towners can get their hands on a wristband by following this link.

The 2006 info will be updated soon so hold on to your knickers before blowing your tops off if last year’s info is still posted.

We Love Test Icicles

March is going to be a great month, and over the next couple days The Content is going to prove it to you. Starting things off with a bang, let me be the one to tell you that Test Icicles is coming to town!

Thousands of miles away and those crazy kids still have the foresight to pick one of the best venues in town, Spaceland. Does anyone else think that the drapes in that place look like something Karen O would make a dress out of? Whatever, here's the date.

End of the Year List, or Lack There of...

Despite what Pitchfork is telling you, the year 2005 has NOT yet ended- so put a sock in it old ladies! We still have 10 days of new music to review before the coveted Top 20 of 05 is released, so we say why rush it.

Explosions In The Sky Need to Take a Nap

Those poor Texans. During their hibernation they forgot how hard it was to travel across the country playing post-rock anthems to all those nodding heads and silent feet. Luckily for them we here on the west coast appreciate every nano second of EITS’s three man lumberjack-guitar-attack enough to fill up two nights at the beloved Troubadour this past weekend.

Too bad for those that showed up on Saturday the boys were too exhausted from their Friday night performance to run through their supposed live staple, “Memorial,” (the one where they actually look like unified lumberjacks attacking the pine ridden stage and you literally, rather than metaphorically, drop your jaw in awe).

Watching Munaf tape an E-bow to his guitar and then bang his jingle bells to smithereens on the stage was almost enough to offset the absence of some key songs from night one; however, for fans that were a tad bit let down by Saturday’s slim set, the availability of EITS's new EP “The Rescue” (previously a mail-order only release) surely helped ease a few souls.

“The Rescue,” is 8 tracks written, recorded, and mixed over a two week period earlier this year for
Temporary Residence’s Travels in Constants series. It’s good, and should hold over any EITS fan while the boys go back into their Texas hideaway to record the new album. Hopefully they’ll be able to get some sleep when they return.

And since we’re all so generous here at the Content, we want to give you a nice little taste of what you probably won’t be able to find anywhere else. Here you go, cuz it’s all you get until the next album.

Meloy Sailing the Queen’s Ship Solo

Lead Decemberist Colin Meloy looks to be heading towards the West coast once again, setting sail for the El Rey Theatre on January 21st.

Unlike his two day stint at the Hotel Café earlier this year, Meloy followers need not wait on the sidewalk for tickets, because your favorite neighborhood fascists Ticketmaster are all about convenience (charges), and have them waiting for you right here.

Don't miss out - full bands are overrated anyhow.

Forward, Russia
Unfortunately, Russia isn't moving forward anytime soon, but luckily for you the English music scene is - enter Forward Russia. Here's another group of Brits to come out unscathed from the smoldering rubble that is bad overseas pop.

Equal parts dance and chaos - this band can do no wrong.

White Heat Music, who have seen some incredible bands come through lately (Bloc Party, Arcade Fire and Test Icicles), put out Thirteen / Fourteen in October and now Dance To the Radio is taking over duties releasing Twelve.

Yes their songs are numbers and yes they are being released two at a time, so I suggest you hold onto them like an only child.
