Thursday poach some lyrics, Belle and Sebastian pose as The Sounds
Geoffy Rickly has always made interesting decisions lyrically. One trademark is his incorporation of famous lyrics into Thursday songs, and their new single "Counting 5-4-3-2-1" proves no different. In my opinion the song's chorus "burn this city, burn this city" pulls from Franz Ferdinand's "This Fire." Here are other examples to help prove my case:
1) "the needle and the damage done" - Neil Young
(Thursday -Understanding In a Car Crash)
2) "white light, white heat" - The Velvet Underground
(Thursday - Asleep in the Chapel)
3) "like a detuned radio" - Radiohead
(Thursday - This Song Has Been Brought To You By a Falling Bomb)
Another case closed.
Part II
The Sounds first album Living In America displayed some pretty sweet cover art, and Belle and Sebastian's new album This Life's Pursuit basically ripped it off.

That's crazy - I hadn't noticed the similarity before.
I like Living in America quite a bit. I just started listening to the new one on MySpace, and haven't yet formed an opinion.
